Radio Song Festival 2012 ABU - Seoul South Korea

The ABU Radio Song Festival 2012 was the first inaugural edition of the ABU Radio Song Festivals. The festival took place in the KBS Hall, which is located in the South Koreancapital of Seoul and coincided with the 49th general assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). The ABU Radio Song Festival attracted twenty-six original entries representing eighteen radio broadcasters from fifteen countries, which competed in a preliminary jury round. The juries selected thirteen entries from twelve radio broadcasters in ten countries to go forward to the final show which was held on 11 October 2012. Fifteen entries were originally selected to participate in the grand final. However Fiji and Sri Lanka later withdrew from the radio competition prior to the final show, and thus only thirteen entries will now participate in the competition which was taken place on 11 October 2012.

Grand Prix Award was won by
South Korea won the Grand Prix award with the song "For a Rest" performed by boy band Billy Acoustie. 
A boy band from Korea has won the inaugural ABU Radio Song Festival in their home city of Seoul.
In front of a live audience of 1500 in KBS Hall, Joon Seop Hong and Sang Keun Lee took out the Grand Prix with
their song "For a rest", a self-penned composition the duo said was inspired by their everyday lives.


Danielle Blakey
Sydney-based singer-songwriter Danielle Blakey representing Australia won the gold award with the song "Fearless". Blake represented Australia at the festival for original and unsigned music. 

 
Brunei received the silver award with the song "Yang Terindah (So Beautiful)" performed by Maria Aires.
Maria (real name Meria Aires) (born February 16, 1989) is the most successful female singer in Brunei

Sammy Ray Jones also representing Australia receiving the bronze award with his song "Rinet".
"It just blew my mind. It was the most wild experience I've ever felt. It was really indescribable. I'm just very thankful for the opportunity," Jones told Radio Australia.

K-Town Clan representing Malaysia received the special jury award with their song "Party Animal". 
K Town Clan is sure on the right track in cementing their legendary status  in the Malaysian Independent music scene. What started off as a hobby for three college students which eventually saw them as deserving champions of the vocal category in Astro Hitz.tv’s Blast Off 1, now has led them to international stardom.
K Town Clan, big winners of VIMA Awards 2012 and Bite My Music Global Awards, were selected to participate in the recently concluded ABU Radio Song Festival in Seoul 2012. The ABU Radio Song Festival is a musical showcase of independent acts across Asia, Australia and the Pacific. The Festival aims to embrace and recognize the diverse musical talents of nations within the region by uncovering the crème de la crème of unsigned acts.

Australian radio broadcaster ABC Australia will host the second inaugural festival in 2014.
